Space debris cleanup: We need Homer!
I know this is a serious story, where the Russian and U.S. satellites collided in outer space. The Associated Press is now reporting that the debris from the collision could orbit the Earth for 10,000 years, endangering other satellites. But I couldn't help chuckling when I thought of two possible solutions to this problem. When I saw the image of all of the debris in space, I couldn't help but think of The Simpsons episode where Homer went into space and opened up the bag of chips in zero gravity ("Careful Homer, they're rippled!"). If only debris were as easy to clean up as potato chips.
